Kurt M. Schmidt, Jr.

Kurt M. Schmidt, Jr. graduated from Norwich University, The Military College of Vermont, magna cum laude, with a B.A. in Criminal Justice in 1989. Following graduation, Mr. Schmidt served as an Armor Officer in the U.S. Army Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1998. Mr. Schmidt attended Suffolk University Law School and graduated with his Juris Doctor degree in 1993. Mr. Schmidt has been admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the State of Connecticut, the State of Rhode Island and the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island.

Prior to joining Foster & Eldridge, LLP, Kurt's practice focused on civil tort litigation including medical malpractice defense, construction law, maritime law and general insurance defense for numerous local and nationally based companies. During that period, Mr. Schmidt also practiced in the areas of products liability litigation, subrogation law; probate and family law, criminal defense and he represented the Archdiocese of Boston in connection with a wide variety of corporate and liability matters.

Mr. Schmidt's current areas of practice include: medical malpractice defense and health care law, representation of medical, dental, nursing and acupuncture professionals before licensing boards and societies, personal injury, and premises and general liability litigation. He has been a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, the Rhode Island Bar Association and the Cambridge-Arlington-Belmont Bar Association.

Mr. Schmidt has received an AV Preeminent Rating, the highest rating for Ethical Standards and Professional Excellence from the international rating directory, Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Schmidt was identified in Boston Magazine as one of Massachusetts' “Rising Star” Attorneys in 2006 and 2007. He was also designated a Massachusetts Super Lawyer by Boston Magazine in 2009 - 2023. Mr. Schmidt has tried numerous complex medical malpractice and general liability cases in the State Courts of Massachusetts, Rhode Island and the Federal District Court of Massachusetts. Mr. Schmidt regularly counsels health care professionals and administrators in health care law and he often lectures on risk management and medical malpractice issues to health care institutions and group practices. Mr. Schmidt was elected to partnership at Foster & Eldridge, LLP in 2009. He also has been recognized by "Best Lawyers" in 2023.
